Dude, that Excursion is pretty clearly over the Smartcar.

I’d like to drive an Excursion over a Smart car, too.

Not if you had to street park in SF. I would rather have an iQ though.

I’ve done parking garages and street parking in Manhattan and Brooklyn without issue in a Sequoia. The Excursion though would definitely be difficult

I think that Excursion is already over a SmartCar.

So in case an Excursion is placed gently on top of your Smart, you’ll be safe. Good to know.

So it can hold a lot of weight. Whoop-de-do. Take an egg, put it in a piece of Tupperware and shake the shit out of it. The Tupperware is fine, the egg is not. That’s what would happen to you in a crash in one of these.

dude no

if a smartcar crashes into an excursion, the excursion is completely obliterated and the smartcar is fine

Now here's a question, do the doors on the Excursion open still or has it warped? I know that's not at all the point but I am entirely too curious about that.

It’s basically a small school bus. Not without its charms, but nevertheless.

Ok so in your dream Excursion, would you have the 5.4 V8, 6.8 V10, or 7.3 Powerstroke?

powerstroke

According to this, the Excursion hikes it’s skirt up, jumps on top and screams “eek! A mouse!”

Yes! I valeted for a month late last year and I got to drive one. Such a beast.

My dream Excursion would have the 6.7 “Scorpion” Power Stroke and the current front end (until the aluminum Super Duties come out next year).

when would a excursion be carefully and slowly place on your roof? I get the point they are trying to make but as long as you dont think about it too much it makes sense.

There is a pretty cool black iQ in SF I see parked, it has nice wheels and a really nice black rack system and box that is the same length as the roof, makes it perfect for parking and getting normal things home. They can park facing out. They appear to be slightly bigger and look less like a toy.

By your logic, though, putting the egg in a bigger and heavier tupperware container wouldn’t help its chances at all.

Well yeah, the Smart is knowingly designed to be super rigid, and use the other car as a crumple zone (which works well enough in a lot of cases since the Smart is lighter, but not so well if the thing you hit is also rigid).

The 7.3 is the only choice. Ford needs to come back to International and build those engines like mad. My boss had one for years and got better mileage pulling a boat than I do in a shortbed v6 manual pickup.

Not a perfect analogy, but true nonetheless. Go watch the video of when Fifth Gear ran a Smart into a concrete wall at 70mph.

As most vehicles are. A crumple zone isn't designed for other vehicles, it's designed for the vehicle it's a part of.
